Mathematical Exploration of SHC by MostWanted - Part 2
Knights against Pikes and sins
Knights have been the most popular melee unit in no ffs since 2013; mainly because of their huge power and because they are so easy to use (on some level). Their biggest strength is, of course, their speed, and the biggest impact this speed has is not cathing ha, but in compress. They can compress in 1 pixel very quickly and deal a lot of damage in very short periods of time. In this exploration we will see how to fight against them using strongest and most skillfull combo in this game - pikes and sins.
Before we say how to play vs them, we must know what are the stats of our units and how they do in battle. I calculated how many assassins is needed to kill x number of knights. I repeated this experiment 7 times to make sure I got relevant results. The table below shows how many assassins were needed to kill specific number of knights. The battle was performed in 1 pixel line, and no groups were used (1 group of knights and 1 group of assassins). Sins were not in flag. FF was not used. Usually, the number of sins survived was less than 5.
Based on the table we can see that the number of sins needed to kill x knights. From the table we can see that number of sins needed increases drastically per increase in knights. This is because even though we increase the number of sins, they still don't compress fast, and when knights are already in 1 pixel, there is nothing even 100 sins can do. Putting it on the graph:
As you can see on the last picture, the calculator shows us the formula for calculating how many sins we need to kill x knights. The formula is:
So for example, if we want to calculate how many sins you need to kill 25 knights: y=1.57 * 25 - 4.71 = 34,54 So you would approximately need 35 sins to kill 25 knights.
I repeated exactly the same process for knights vs pikes, and this is the resulting formula:
So for example, let's do the opposite now, how many KNIGHTS are needed to kill 50 pikes?
So, approximately 34 knights are needed to kill 50 pikes.
From this results, we can see that it is usually bad to use pikes OR sins to fight against knights. What you need to remember that using pikes AND sins is still superior and kills knights easily, even in big numbers. Basically, the conclusion is that you should never send sins only or knights only on knights. Losing army is not good. The only situation where this does not apply is for when you can win the battle. Based on this formulas you will know how many troops you need to win. Of course you are not going to use a calculator and type in formulas while playing shc, but try them a little bit, get some feeling about how many sins/pikes you need. In game, if you have enough to win, you can send sins or pikes alone on knights. If you dont, don't lose troops, send them back and wait for pikes/sins so you can compress and kill them easily. And again, playing this tactic is very hard and demand a lot of skill since you will need to control multiple groups and have perfect timing, while at the same time protecting your ha. If you want to be a top expert, learn this. Practice it until you master it. - MostWanted, 2017.

# of knights killed | # of sins |
30 | 42 |
35 | 50 |
40 | 59 |
45 | 67 |
50 | 73 |
55 | 81 |
60 | 90 |
Based on the table we can see that the number of sins needed to kill x knights. From the table we can see that number of sins needed increases drastically per increase in knights. This is because even though we increase the number of sins, they still don't compress fast, and when knights are already in 1 pixel, there is nothing even 100 sins can do. Putting it on the graph:
As you can see on the last picture, the calculator shows us the formula for calculating how many sins we need to kill x knights. The formula is:
y=1.57x-4.71 ---- Formula does not work for huge or very small numbers ---- ;; y= number of sins ;; x= number of knights
So for example, if we want to calculate how many sins you need to kill 25 knights: y=1.57 * 25 - 4.71 = 34,54 So you would approximately need 35 sins to kill 25 knights.
I repeated exactly the same process for knights vs pikes, and this is the resulting formula:
y=1.41x+1.5 ----- Formula does not work for huge or very small numbers ---- ;; y= number of pikes ;; x= number of knights
So for example, let's do the opposite now, how many KNIGHTS are needed to kill 50 pikes?
y=1.41x+1.5
1.41x+1.5=y
1.41x=y-1.5
1.41x=50-1.5
1.41x=48.5
x= 48.5/1.41=34.3
So, approximately 34 knights are needed to kill 50 pikes.
From this results, we can see that it is usually bad to use pikes OR sins to fight against knights. What you need to remember that using pikes AND sins is still superior and kills knights easily, even in big numbers.
